Tour-level performance without tour-level prices

Premium golf balls use a soft cast urethane cover over a multi-layer core. That combination is what gives tour players the greenside spin and the piercing ball flight that a two-piece ionomer ball simply cannot match.

Buying them graded is the single biggest saving available to a club golfer: the same Pro V1, TP5 or Chrome Soft, at Standard-ball money.

Which premium ball should you play?

Pro V1 and Chrome Soft suit players who want soft feel and a mid, controllable flight. Pro V1x, TP5x and Z-Star XV fly higher and feel firmer with more long-game spin. AVX flies lower with less spin for players who fight a ballooning ball flight.

If you are unsure, start with a dozen Grade A of two models and play them back to back over a few rounds — at these prices it is an inexpensive test.

How our golf ball grading works

Every ball that comes into the vault is washed, inspected under light and hand-sorted into one of three grades, so you always know exactly what is arriving.

Pearl Grade balls are our best condition golf balls. Excellent condition with only the occasional tiny pen mark. A Grade balls are lightly used and excellent value. May have minor surface marks, discolouration or ink marks. No cuts or creases, and some balls may carry logos. B Grade balls are in good playing condition and are our best-value option. May show more noticeable cosmetic marks, but remain fully playable.

Pearl is our best condition golf ball. A Grade is lightly used and excellent value. B Grade is in good playing condition and our best-value option. Grading reflects each ball's condition and cosmetic appearance.

Frequently asked questions

What is a premium golf ball?
A premium golf ball has a urethane cover and three or more layers, engineered for greenside spin and control. Titleist Pro V1, TaylorMade TP5, Callaway Chrome Soft and Srixon Z-Star are the best-known examples.
Are used premium golf balls worth it?
For most club golfers, yes. A Pearl grade Pro V1 costs around half the price of a new dozen and performs the same, which makes tour-ball performance affordable round after round.
